Buying dog pads: sizes, sample checks and private-label packaging

Emily pets editorial team

The outside dimensions of a dog pad alone do not establish whether a variant fits your range. Buyers also need to consider usable area, documented sample checks and clear retail packaging. This guide helps importers and private-label brands gather the right information before ordering.

1. Separate outside dimensions from usable area

The Emily pets range lists dog pads measuring 600 × 600 mm and 600 × 900 mm. Use these specifications as a starting point for your inquiry. Confirm whether they describe the full outside dimensions including the border, and which dimensional tolerances apply to the ordered variant.

Also ask for the absorbent core dimensions and border construction. A larger pad does not automatically have a higher absorption capacity. Base the intended application, space requirements and sales description on confirmed product information.

2. Assess samples using an agreed procedure

Before comparing samples, agree what you want to assess: liquid uptake, surface moisture, behaviour at the edges or stability when lifting the pad. Define the liquid, quantity, application rate, waiting period and supporting surface. Demonstrations are difficult to compare without consistent conditions.

Record observations with the date, variant identifier and photographs. Distinguish visible results from measured values. An internal preliminary check does not replace agreed performance evidence. If a numerical claim will appear on packaging, the test method and supporting evidence must match the specific goods.

Keep an approved reference sample and record the characteristics agreed for delivery. This gives purchasing and incoming-goods inspection the same basis for assessment.

3. Consider pack count alongside shipping data

Confirm the number of pads per retail pack, folding format, bag dimensions and closure. Also confirm packs per outer carton, carton dimensions and shipping weight. These details affect storage, shipping calculations and online product listings.

Compare quotations on the same basis: identical construction, dimensions, pack count and packaging requirements. A lower price per bag is not a reliable comparison without these details. Ask for outstanding items to be identified explicitly in the quotation.

4. Match OEM/ODM packaging to the goods

For an OEM inquiry, you can provide your product specification and artwork. An ODM project develops the product and packaging concept together. Discuss required variants, languages, print files and item identifiers early.

German product copy should clearly state dimensions, pack count and intended application. Claims about guaranteed absorption capacity or a particular usage duration should only be used after suitable evidence has been confirmed. Agree use and disposal instructions, along with barcode and batch information placement, for the actual variant.

Review a packaging layout and, where appropriate, a print sample before approval. Minimum quantity, cost, technical feasibility and delivery timing are confirmed for each project.

5. Prepare a complete inquiry

Specify Germany as your target market, the sales channel, required dimensions, pads per pack and planned order quantity. Add sample assessment requirements, private-label artwork and delivery location. If product construction is still open, describe your requirements rather than assuming an unconfirmed level of performance.

Request a clearly specified variant with packing data, a sample process and delivery terms. The linked product page introduces our dog pads; the quotation defines the agreed configuration.
